Pruning Standards

J Davis Tree Care Certified Arborists follow ANSI A300 pruning standards. As a J Davis Tree Care client you can be certain our team of highly trained tree care experts will prune your trees to maintain your trees’ health and optimal structure. Tree pruning, done incorrectly, can be dangerous. Our experts will protect you, your property, and your trees from damage and mistakes.

Tree Trimming done wrong will severely impact the appearance of your property for years to come. When it’s time to trim your trees we encourage you to use only ISA Certified Arborists. One wrong cut, when trimming a tree, could result in years of disappoint if the appearance of your property is harmed.

Pruning Type

  • Crown cleaning shall consist of the selective removal of one or more of the following items: dead, dying, or diseased branches, weak branches and watersprouts.
  • Crown thinning shall consist of the selective removal of branches to increase light penetration, air movement, and reduce weight.
  • Crown raising shall consist of the removal of the lower branches of a tree to provide clearance.
  • Crown Reduction or Crown Shaping. To decrease the height and/or spread of a tree. Consideration should be given to the ability of a species to sustain this type of pruning.
  • Vista Pruning is selective thinning of framework limbs or specific areas of the crown to allow a view of an object from a predetermined point.
  • Crown Restoration pruning should improve the structure, form, and appearance of trees which have been severely headed, vandalized, or storm damaged.

Tree Removal

Although we would rather nurture and maintain your existing trees, sometimes tree removal is necessary. This is an important part of providing full service.

Needless to say, there is an element of danger in tree removal and it should only be performed by proven, highly-skilled tree service crews, such as the ones employed by JDavis Tree Care. Lawn and landscape firms do not typically employ personnel trained in tree removal operations. This creates a tremendous liability for the client if something goes wrong. Insurance required to protect personnel, clients, and property is very expensive, and normally not carried by lawn and landscape firms. Arborists trained in tree removal pay close attention to important factors to minimize potential hazards to ensure their own safety as well as the integrity of the surrounding property.

Natural mulch is available on site for pick up. Our tree crews are always looking for a place to dump freshly ground mulch. If you need a full load of mulch, call to be added to our delivery list and when our crews are in your area we will dump a load free of charge. We also offer natural and colored reground mulch. Environmentally Friendly

J. Davis Shredded Wood Mulch is made from local area trees. By recycling these trees, that would otherwise end up in a landfill, we are saving landfill space. Unlike decorative stone mulches sometimes used in landscaping, Shredded Wood Mulch is an organic mulch, which with time will become rich topsoil. Plants, shrubs and trees have been shown to do much better with an organic mulch which offers better temperature buffering during extreme hot or cold weather.
